The Burden of Knowledge

After a while, AI no longer surprises you. It is no longer something to marvel at. It becomes part of your life, right there beside you, helping, speeding things up, organizing, making your days easier. From the outside, nothing visibly changes. People still go to work, talk, decide and live the same way they always have. And yet something happens. Not outwardly, but inside.

A strange inner tension appears. The realization that certain things can no longer be covered up by the explanation of not knowing. When a question arises, the source for finding an answer is there. When a decision has to be made, you can no longer shrug it off with the same ease as before and push responsibility away from yourself. Not knowing used to be comfortable. Not shameful, rather natural. The world was complex, information was hard to obtain, and people did what they could and found peace in that.

Now, however, access is here. The possibility of quick answers is here as well. And with it comes responsibility, appearing as an unfamiliar burden. This is not a liberating feeling; it is rather oppressive. Because once you know how to ask questions and know that answers will come, independent thinking becomes responsibility again—and that is risky. Your decisions gain weight. If you make a mistake while being informed, it is no longer an accident. It is a bad decision. Outwardly, it can be explained away. Inwardly, it cannot.

From the outside, none of this is visible. Others do not know what you know. They do not see that you now recognize more connections than before. A quiet burden appears: you can no longer remain an outsider in every situation. Not knowing has a particular kind of peace. Those who do not see connections do not have to weigh options, do not have to make decisions. In this sense, the position of the “fool” is indeed comfortable.

AI breaks this comfort. It provides easy access to information that inevitably changes you. You become more—suddenly and unprepared. And this is how knowledge turns into a burden. Not because there is too much information, but because it demands inner work. Because it does not allow everything to be handled by instinct. Because behind every answer the question remains: what will you do with it, and how will you use it?

This is the point where AI is no longer a technological tool, but an inner challenge. A state in which knowledge is not a privilege, but a heavy burden. And this is where something truly important is decided. Either you slide back to a comfortable level and pretend not to know what you already know. It is better to accept that the world has not become simpler because more answers are available. It has become more penetrating. And this is not a relief. It is a complication.
